Last month, Sasha Colby, the “historic” winner and reigning Queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 launched Sasha Colby Hair. The hair-extensions line debuted with a 28-inch ponytail inspired by Colby’s famous signature pony and, as the star told us, the extensions go way beyond strands to something more significant.
What inspired you to create Sasha Colby Hair?
SC: When I created Sasha Colby Hair, I really wanted to utilize my 20 years of drag knowledge to help everyone channel their inner goddess. Even though it’s just hair, to me, hair is power and that’s what I always aim to instill in people.
What did you love most about the process?
SC: I actually really loved the creative process. I loved creating the look and product with Salon Xtensions. I enjoyed using and testing out exactly what I wanted and really creating something special for the customers.
When people wear your pony, how do you want them to feel?
SC: When they put on a Sasha Colby pony, they should feel the way I make them feel when they watch Sasha Colby. They should feel empowered, sexy, ready to conquer the world.
What is next for your line?
SC: For my pony line, we are working on different densities, different colors, different lengths, and also different textures of hair. There’s going to be so much variety for everyone to express themselves in so many different ways on any given day.
What are some of your holy-grail beauty items?
SC: A great mascara. I have loved the Voluminous mascara by L’Oreal for 10-plus years now. Also, good skin care because that creates a good foundation. Whatever your skin-care regimen is, find the one that’s right for you. I won’t say exactly what works for me because it might not work for you, but something that works for everyone is a great hydrating essence. My favorite is La Mer The Mist.
What is one product you just tried for the first time that you’re obsessed with?
SC: I’m really into Carpe Sweat-Absorbing Face Lotion that you put on before you apply your makeup, especially during the summer. It saved me this past Pride.
What is one beauty move you cannot master?
SC: Oh, I cannot get the curling iron. I’m a hot roller kind of gal. I’m definitely not a whiz at the curling iron.
